Lead-Acid Batteries 

Lead-acid batteries are among the most used and reliable batteries in existence. They are the cheapest Option, but they negotiate the cost of battery life and depth of discharge. But for homeowners who need a lot of storage space at a lower cost, or if they are simply switching to a solar system, lead acid can be a very good Option.


Salt Water Batteries


Salt water batteries are more expensive than lead acid batteries, but they also have a longer service life. Unlike lead-acid batteries, saltwater batteries are essentially new to the market and remain both a bit untested and harder to find. Of the three types of batteries, salt water has the greatest depth of discharge, so you get the most power per charge before you have to charge.


Lithium Battery


Lithium batteries are the most expensive and durable of the three types of solar batteries. Their depth of discharge is less than that of salt water at home, but greater than that of a lead-acid battery. Comparing the three options, the lithium battery is probably the best rated, but also the least affordable.

Measured in kilowatt hours (kWh), capacity is the amount of energy a battery can store over time. Literally, capacity is the amount of energy (measured in kW) that a battery can store over time. The more capacity a battery has, the more power it can store.


Power is the amount of energy a battery can provide at a given time. A high-capacity, high-power battery can run a large system for several hours; a low-capacity, high-power battery can run a large system, but only for a short time.


Efficiency 


Efficiency is the amount of energy consumed relative to the amount of energy needed to store that energy. Batteries need electricity to charge and efficiency compares the energy needed to charge a battery to the amount of energy produced by the charged battery. The higher the efficiency, the more cost-effective the battery.


Manufacturer


This may not be a component that most would consider, but it is something to watch out for. As with other technologies, there are both trusted brands and Start-up brands. A trusted brand has known flaws and advantages; A Start-Up brand may have better technology, but may also have unknown technological problems. Depending on the requirements of your system, you can opt for a well-rated company or a brand new company on the market.
